Introduction
City Park in the Heights sits at 1640 E TC Jester Blvd in Houston's Greater Heights neighborhood. Over 26 months on the Cobu resident engagement platform, this community is highly active with 86% monthly participation and 1,447 resident comments in the past year. Here is what that activity actually looks like.
Life Inside City Park in the Heights: What Residents Actually Do Here
What makes our community distinctive is how much of it is resident-driven. Yes, our team plans events. But residents also organize their own. One resident started taking a group to SPJST Lodge for weekly bingo, a neighborhood institution about ten minutes away on foot, and it became a regular community outing. Another resident moved here from Kentucky, introduced themselves on the feed, and has since become one of the most active contributors, always among the first to welcome someone new.
The conversations on our feed have the easy, familiar tone of people who have been connecting here for a long time.
The Events and Social Scene
We hosted 20 events this past year. Our City Park Heights Brunch had 26 RSVPs. The Grab and Go Breakfast pulled 21 RSVPs. Bagel Shmear On The Go brought 16 RSVPs. Even quick morning events get strong RSVP numbers here.
The Dough Cone Ice Cream Truck (19 RSVPs), Happy Pi Day (14 RSVPs), Ice Cream Social (15 RSVPs), and National Pretzel Day (15 RSVPs) show a community that takes any reason to gather. The First Annual Bouquet Bar for Valentine's Day brought 15 RSVPs. Wine Night with Body20 from the Heights connected us with a local business. City Park Goes To Bingo at SPJST Lodge turned a resident's regular outing into a community event. The Pop-Up Pet Adoption, Blood Drive, Yappy Hour, and Pool Party rounded out the calendar.
What Residents Talk About Every Day
The feed has this warm, practical energy. One resident got the wrong DoorDash order and immediately posted offering free chicken fajitas to anyone who wanted them. During spring break, another resident posted offering cookies to neighbors. When a cat was found near the leasing center, neighbors identified the owner quickly on the feed because people here recognize each other's pets.
There are plenty of food recommendations in the feed. Loro Asian Smokehouse is the most-mentioned restaurant. Hughie's on 18th and Kings Bierhaus come up constantly. Cedar Creek on 20th is right near the property. EggHaus and Roast and Brew are the brunch spots. New Magnolia Brewery is across the street, and a resident shared on the feed that a friend's food truck parks behind it. Hopdoddy, KA Sushi, and Bellagreen round out the rotation. Kroger is nearby for everyday essentials.
Our Dog Group has 40 members, and between Yappy Hour, Pup Cup Social, and the Pop-Up Pet Adoption, pet owners are well connected. The marketplace has its own personality: a resident listing 40-plus house plants turned a post into an event, and everything from standing desks to Etsy pottery circulates regularly.
Interest Groups
We currently have six groups, and residents can create a new group whenever they want. The Foodie Group and Game Nights are tied at 58 members each. The Tasting Club has 42 members. Dog Group has 40. Bikes! (31 members) connects cyclists for social rides and weekly road rides. Netflix BingeWatchers (10 members) is a modern take on the social club. That range, from 58-member foodie crews to a tight-knit streaming group, reflects the diversity of this community.
